Interns: Party with The Queen in NYC

Summer- the season for bikinis, boats, baseball and maybe most of all in cities like New York, student interns!

How do you spend summertime in NYC?

The academic calendar may only span 9 months, but forward-thinking collegiates know that summer “vacations” are the best time to get to work.  Companies begin scouting summer interns early; by spring break, the internship buzz is full-blown.  Competitive students take a break from comparing GPAs to stack their resumes against each other and work towards securing the best summer gigs.

When it comes to stacking resumes, young entrepreneur Lauren Berger is the Intern Queen.

Lauren Berger

Literally; she is the CEO of the Intern Queen.com; a consulting resource for young professionals and the companies that want them. She held 15 internships as an undergraduate,  has authored a book, “All Work No Pay” of advice for entering the job market as an intern, and now speaks all over the world on the topic.

So while summer might always be largely celebrated as the season for hitting the beach instead of the books, Lauren Berger’s second annual Intern Queen party on July 31st will celebrate hundreds of interns who chose to hit the office during the sunshine-y months.

#internqueenparty

Last year, 800 of the city’s interns showed up for a lucrative panel session and networking experience.
This year’s panel will include coordinators for Ogilvy, The Make-a-Wish Foundation, The Rachel Ray Show, Viacom, AOL, and The Smithsoniaian Institute and will be happening at 404NYC at 404 Tenth Avenue.
The event is free for all interns, press, executives and intern coordinators.

You can RSVP on the eventbrite site: http://internqueenparty.eventbrite.com.

Barney's Breakfast Dialogue Spans Frosty Teaspoons, Puffy Eyes and the Aztecs

Our last post speculated on what would transpire at the Beauty Breakfast event co-hosted by Harper’s Bazaar and Barney’s this morning.

The event lured ladies (who might otherwise lunch) to the top floor the Madison Avenue department store for breakfast. It started early- 8:30 this morning- and promised expert beauty tips, free gifts, and the newest issue of Harper’s to its early-rising attendees.

The crowd that filled the 9th floor of Barney’s (and kept the skinny-tie clad waiters of Fred’s on their toes) was not disappointed.

Simon Doonan, the celebrity face of the haute retailer, was among them, an unannounced treat for fans of his writing. He began the panel portion of the breakfast with his signature wit, asking for a round of applause for the tiered pastry stands on each breakfaster’s table.

The lovely Glenda Bailey, editor-in-chief of Harper’s, gushed over the style and beauty of her readers in the crowd; a beauty, she noted as remarkably achieved before 9 am.

Each guest received the latest issue of Harper's
Things got down to the nitty-gritty when the panel started up.

Sunday Riley shared her prescription to start anti-aging creams in earnest on one’s 21st birthday, noting that puffy, tired eyes can age the look of "even a three-year-old".

Harper’s Beauty editor Alexandra Parnass shared a tip even simpler than anti-aging creams (which the experts revealed there is a lot more chemistry to than this humanities major can handle) to combat droopy eyes. She recommended a tip from her grandmother- to put 2 teaspoons in the freezer every morning and use the chilled instruments at the end of the day an effective eye-mask.

Before I could run to the bathroom mirror to check out in how droopy my own face was starting to get in light of all this anti-aging talk, the panel turned to Carlos Huber.

The fragrance designer (just as handsome and charming in real life as GQ.com had led me to believe) explained how for him the sense of smell overpowered sight. Each of Huber’s perfumes is designed to capture a specific time and place, and not just vaguely. Before designing fragrance, he was as an architect in historic preservation. The inspiration for Arquiste scent is grounded in detailed research.

The ancient city of Tenochtitlan in August  1400 was waiting for me in the form of little atomizer tucked into the event’s giftbag. I spritzed a little on right away. But, in case someone still notices, amidst being carried away by my scent to an undiscovered Aztec city, what stress and smog have been doing to my skin, there was a Radical Skincare eye crème and some super lux Claudio Riaz make-up in there, too.

BEAUTY BREAKFAST TOMORROW

Beauty Breakfast Panelist Carlos Huber

It seems like we’re a minority, but I am a total morning person.

When I was a little kid, I packed chapter books for sleepovers to be a quiet activity when I was the first to wake up.  I’ve been known to show up early to 8:30 classes. My favorite foods include coffee, croissants, egg sandwiches and everything bagels.  I’ve never owned an alarm clock because I love getting up early in the morning to sing in the shower and blow-dry my hair (much to the chagrin of my roommates).

If you’re wincing, this event might not be for you. As a morning person, though, when I saw that Harper’s Bazaar was co-hosting a beauty breakfast with Barney’s tomorrow at 8:30AM, I knew it was an event for people like me as much as it was one for the beauty-obsessed.

Alexandra Parnass, the beauty editor for Harper’s, will be moderating a panel of experts over breakfast at Fred’s on the 9th floor of Barney’s Madison Avenue.

The panelists are Claudio Riaz; of the eponymous lux cosmetic line, skincare brand owners Sunday Riley, Liz and Rachel Eldich, and Carlos Huber, the GQ man behind Arquiste fragrances.

They will discuss developing an optimal morning beauty routine and how it can “enhance your lifestyle”.
Tickets are available for $32.50 through Eventbrite, and a swaggy giftbag, $30 giftcard to Barney’s, invaluable tricks and tips, and June issue of Harper’s are promised in the event description.

I’ll be sure to follow-up with a report of what’s in the “ultralux” giftbag, the "invaluable" tips that come out over breakfast, and what you can actually buy for $30 at Barney’s…

Schiaparelli and Prada @ the MET

Even if you didn’t get an invite to the Met Ball this year, there was still an event for you to celebrate the Costume Institute’s new exhibition: “Impossible Conversations: Schiaparelli and Prada” at this year.

“Waist Up / Waist Down, An Evening of Schiaparelli and Prada” was put on last night by the College Group at the Met, and for an invitation to this Met event, all you needed was a student id.

The Schiaparelli/Prada exhibit was closed to the public from 7:00 to 11:00PM for the event. It let college students (with an RSVP) exclusively view the exhibit independently and on docent-led tours, as well as sit in on an expert panel discussion that began at 7:00.

It was a pretty great opportunity for avoiding the crowds that the Costume Institute’s popular exhibits usually bring!

And, like the May 7th Met Ball fashion statements were encouraged by the College Group. Event-goers heeded an optional dress code of “Waist Up” or “Waist Down” styles inspired by Schiaparelli and Prada and were provided with visual guidelines and inspiration on the event’s webpage.

About a thousand college age students attended; representing each of the city's art schools, as well as a cross-section of local undergraduate and graduate students pursuing various fields.

DJ Speakeasy kept the night going, with funky sets styled from the likes of Empire of the Sun and Rihanna, as did the party's catering, which served soft drinks, strawberries and light snacks to guests as they mingled outside the exhibit.

The optional dress code was a similarly successful aspect of the event. Aside viewing the Schiaparelli and Prada styles being celebrated, on display the entire evening were the creative ensembles of party-goers themselves.Student guests experimented with harem pants, sequins, pillbox hats and paper-mache platforms, among other combinations, to capture the essence of the event with their personal style.

The night was a visual celebration of Schiaparelli and Prada's eccentric styles on many levels.

Spring has Sprung in NYC

March 1st- April 7th 2012
Only a few days left to see the Macy's Flower Show at Herald Square! It's a tradition that became especially impressive when specialty gardens were built, including exotic plants and flowers from around the world. The current show features an incredible garden containing over 30,000 types of flowers and plants, and it's free! In addition to the gardens, Macy's has other exciting events during the Flower Show such as cooking demonstrations, prize giveaways, contests, announcments, promotions, celebrity appearances and more.
Whether you're a couple looking for something romantic, a family looking for something interesting, or an individual who loves nature, this event is perfect. It even offers a free guided tour for those intersted in learning more about the specifcs of the plants featured and the structure of the show.
To many guests, one of the most fun aspects of the show are the creative themes Macy's uses to make each department enchanted. Every year is full of surprises, but one popular past theme was a princess garden in the young girls clothing section, they must have loved it. This years theme is "Brasil: Gardens in Paradise." Get there before week's end to see it!

Can't get enough flowers?
You have almost all of April (the 1st-29th) to experience the Hanami Japanese Cherry Blossom viewing at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

AMP3pr Nolcha Fashion Week 2012

AMP3PR has been the public relations firm for Nolcha Fashion Week for the past four seasons and succeeded each time to help create a Linkmemorable, reputable event for Nolcha. While AMP3PR has learned the ins and outs of the event over the past couple years, they also know that no season is identical and each event brings along challenges that keep them on their toes.

One of the changes for this years show on February 9th, 2012 was the new location at the Alvin Ailey Studios. Additionally, every show comes with an evolving guest list requiring new invitations, RSVPs and seating charts. During the event, it was AMP3PR that manned the guest list, handled the seating chart and answered numerous questions. The show ran smoothly and the independent designers had a great opportunity to showcase their new and exciting looks for the upcoming season. The hard work paid off, making Nolcha Fashion Week 2012 another hit this season.

The featured designers had diverse cultural backgrounds ranging from Turkey, Greece, Puerto Rico, The United Kingdom, The Philippines, Italy, Guatemala and different regions of The United States. A portion of the 3:30pm runway show featured two Latina designers Rebeca Tiago and Charlyn Castro-Rojas, which drew the support and attention of celebrity Adrienne Bailon. Adrienne even attended the Nolcha event wearing a stunning dress by Rebeca Tiago. The popular 6:30pm runway show featured Italian designer, Danilo Gabrielli, whose collection blended elements of both rustic Italian and luxurious American styles. In support of Danilo, a celebrity appearance was made by LuAnn de Lesseps from Bravo's The Real Housewives of New York. LuAnn's attendance to Nolcha Fashion Week may even appear in an upcoming episode of the show.

An inspirational element to Nolcha Fashion Week this year was the introduction of Glocal's "Coleccion by Kem Ajachel" which is part of a mission to help educate and empower women in third-world countries. This beautiful collection included pieces made from silk, rayon and cotton materials handmade by women in Guatemala.

An exciting day came to a close with an elegant 9:00pm runaway show featuring Seckin Ilker's gorgeous formal wear and bridal selection. A combination of hard work put in by Nolcha, AMP3 public relations and the featured designers made Nolcha Fashion Week 2012 quite the event!
